Guide to Health Insurance for International Students

In order to satisfy the needs of the rapid developmentof international education in China, safeguard legitimate rights ofinternational students, refine Emergency Mechanism, and optimizeinternational education environment, The International Cooperationand Exchange Bureau of the Ministry of Education has made and issuedthe Provisional Regulations on Compulsory International StudentInsurance at Higher Institutions of Learning (ICEBoMoE [2007]No.1078). The following instructions combined with the actualconditions of this university are formulated in accordance with thespirit of superior documents：

1. International students who study in this universityfor no less than one semester (including one semester) must buy theauthorized group comprehensive insurance for international studentsin China.  

2. International students who need to buy the authorizedgroup comprehensive insurance shall pay insurance premium when theypay tuition.

3. When departments and units of the university signagreements of accepting international students with overseascolleges, universities or institutions, they must confirm the payerand the method of payment of the group comprehensive insurance forinternational students in accordance with the rules of Article 1. Ifthe stipulation contains no explicit provision, they shall pay theinsurance at their own expense.

4. International students must present theircertificates of purchased insurance of Ping An international studentsinsurance if they buy the insurance by themselves when they areregistering, or else they cannot go through the formalities ofregistration and residence permit for the foreigners.

5. Given that Lianhua International Insurance Brokers(Beijing) Co., Ltd. has been an insurance company which accepts theapplications of Chinese government scholarship students for“comprehensive insurance for international students”, thisuniversity also appoints the “comprehensive insurance forinternational students” of Lianhua International Insurance Brokers(Beijing) Co., Ltd. as the authorized group insurance forinternational students in order to ensure the equality of thestandards of insurances enjoyed by international students.

6. Detailed issues that are related to the comprehensiveinsurance for international students in China shall be dealt with inaccordance with the relevant articles formulated by LianhuaInternational Insurance Brokers (Beijing) Co., LTD. The company'sweb site: https://www.lxbx.net/home.

7. Allinternational students are required to have medical insurance inZUEL (at least including Outpatient, Casualty, HospitalizationInsurance and Death Insurance). International students who havebought medical insurance before coming to China shall pay attentionto the coverage and usage of insurances. As to specific medicaltreatments, medical procedure and the coverage of medicalinsurances, please refer to relevant documents.

①International freshmen who enter China with X visasshall go to Hubei Health Inspection and Quarantine Center forverification of physical examination upon arrival. Those who fail topass the verification are required to go through another physicalexamination. Those who are not suitable for study because of certaindisease shall return their countries immediately.

②All the international students who enjoy thecomprehensive insurance for international students of LianhuaInternational Insurance Brokers (Beijing) Co., LTD, could go topublic hospital to have the outpatient treatment. In that case, thestudent shall pay for the medical expenses by themselves first, andthen, claim for part of the compensation for the medical costs frominsurance company with the original receipts,medical case book, relevant certificate materials etc.If student needs to be hospitalized who have to contact withinsurance company first, the insurance company shall bear a certainamount of fees for treatment, medicine and bed in accordance withrelated regulations. ③If the student need to be hospitalized for any reason(including accidents or serious diseases), please consult theinsurance company first, and go to the hospital receiving advancepayment (attached:List of hospitals receiving advance payment inWuhan), and inform the teacher of the IES office (Office 610 inWenHuan Building)  in time. If the student goes to any otherhospitals (public hospital), the advance payment method cannot beused. Once the student recovers and checks out, he or she can applyfor health insurance benefits.

④International students should pay the expenses onsuch items as dentures, glasses, abortion, nutriment, tonics and somemedicines that cannot be applied for reimbursement according torelevant regulations.

⑤Anyone who violates laws and regulations leading toaccidental injuries shall be responsible for all the subsequentexpenses.
